Just a random Question, kinda figured it's an ice breaker. How many people on this board are acutally 'on the job', or work in the law enforcement community?

I work(ed) NEAR the law enforcement community; does that count?! I worked in the City Prosecutor's Office, and hopefully will be working there again come January... My next-door neighbor is a City cop - he's muscular, stocky, fair skinned, and bald.... hmmmmmmm.

.:E:. , are you a para legal, or working tword a law degree by doing internship? Neither, actually -- although law does interest me. The nearest law school is at WVU in Morgantown (abt. 180 miles from here). We're not moving there. I'm considering going for an associate degree in paralegal studies, though -- offered at the University of Charleston (about 15 miles away). I wouldn't be able to start until summer of 06..... we'll see. edit : but then again, communications and camera work interest me too, and WVSU is only over the river and through the woods....

Just a random Question, kinda figured it's an ice breaker. How many people on this board are acutally 'on the job', or work in the law enforcement community? Good thread! My biological dad was a police officer and I have always been fascinated by everything associated with law enforcement. My mother was a nurse and I've also got a taste for the biomedical. I started my career in AIDS research (science writing for the feds) but now I do something very close to fraud investigation (among other things), also for the Federal Gov't.
My true love will always be criminal justice and aberrant human behavior (hmm, let me reword that!) Even as a little kid, I scribbled in my first Barbi diary that I would someday be the victim of a serial killer. I can't say I don't still believe that! At least I hope to see it coming! heh heh ;D

all good stuff, by the way, I was born in Charleston, WV. Cool! Hey, cousin! Did you live here long? Go to school here? Do you miss it? Sorry for the barrage of Qs - I'm eventually going to have to leave.... I'm curious what it's like on the "outside!" harharhar.... I did live in MN for one summer, and TN for 2 years; other than that I've stayed close to home. Even as a little kid, I scribbled in my first Barbi diary that I would someday be the victim of a serial killer. I can't say I don't still believe that! At least I hope to see it coming! heh heh ;D
I was convinced an axe-murderer was going to get me in my sleep when I was little! I still can't sleep with my back to the bedroom door.

Hey guys! New here and it's nice to see a decent board because the FX board sucked. Anyway, I am a Chicago Police Officer and am part of a gang/narcotics unit. It's the best job in the world but nowhere near as crazy as what goes on in the show. To be honest their are days that are just booooooring but then soetimes you get those hot calls where everything is chaos and you go into a completely different frame of mind where you see everything clearly and are completely focussed. Nothing like it in the world. Either way just wanted to introduce myself and say thanks for the board. Oz.

I hope you will feel comfortable sharing insights into the police action--everything from door busting to filing of reports--esp when they've missed a step on The Shield. Maybe you can share something more about your own career as you feel comfortable... like how you went from a uniform to a unit? Do you have a sense of corruption in your own ranks at all? (Hmmm, would you tell us if you did??) How your work affects your family life. Things like that.

Hey CHIKchick, I don't mind sharing at all. Actually, to answer a few of your questions: My beat used to be the Cabrini Green housing projects and after being shot at, running into apartment fires and doing a heck of alot of running up and down stairs the projects were beginning to get torn down. I knew that the fun was over and it was a time for a change. A friend of mine was part of a gang team in another district so i put in for the transfer and got it. As far as corruption, we are watched so closely and are treated like we're all crooked by our own IMMEDIATE supervisors. Alot of our own sergeants treat us like we are idiots and basically incompetent. I think it is part of their training as i've seen people i know become sergeants and all of a sudden they are complete company men and women. The same people that you would see driving in the opposite direction when there was a 10-1 call (officer needs assistance) are all of a sudden telling stories of how they were "the real police"! So the general feeling is that no-one of rank can be trusted to watch your back even if you're legit. I had a prisoner who began kicking over tables and spitting at me (while he was cuffed to the wall) so i pepper sprayed him. Totally within our guidelines. My Sgt. flipped and got all wierd asking me "how are we gonna explain this?" ummmm telll the truth, Duhh. Just imagine if i would have shot him. Anyway, I'm always willing to share my point of view so ask away. P.S. NO officer in the world would let I.A.D. walk into their house and push them around without a warrant like Lem did. I consider Lem to be the toughest guy on the team besides Vic. He's a pit bull and to see that i was just shaking my head. That's an example of what would never happen. Talk to you guys soon. Oz

No, not a cop, but something almost as dangerous...I'm a mortgage agent. Pretty tame life actually. Maybe that's why I like TS so much, to see how the other half lives. I'm new, but could see me posting about 50-50 from home or work. Glad to be here!

no cop here either, actually unemployed at the present time. was laid off work on 11-11-2005 after 12 years at the same job (medical secretary). Can't draw unemployment because my former employer hasn't reported wages on me since 2002! My "job" right now is trying to get that resolved.
