Hey there everybody… Walton Goggins here. I’ve been asked to write a few words about this episode. I’m sitting here listening to some of the music from the Shield. I do that from time to time… sit and listen. I’m a fan of music. I’m a fan of Shawn Ryan’s taste in music. More often than not, it puts me in a contemplative mood, makes me think about moments of this show that are indelibly imprinted upon my mind.
That being said, I thought about the journey that you’ve been taken on these last 5 episodes and for some, the pathos you must have felt for Shane. Especially after committing such a horrific act of violence. If we’ve done our jobs, you will have felt compassion for a person so stricken with grief and remorse. That being said, after watching tonight’s episode, I wonder how you feel now? Have you lost the sympathy that Shane has built up over the last 5 episodes? Do you hate him for the threats that he made against Vic? Is it betrayal to put pen to paper, to list all the things that we’ve done and threaten to use them in order to protect that which you hold dearest…Your FAMILY? For me Shane’s actions were purely self-defense…you threaten me, I will threaten you. We’re both guilty. Two friends inexorably tied to the violent acts they’ve committed. For me it was about leveling the playing field, about letting bygones by bygones. You go your way and I’ll go mine. Just leave mine alone.
It is so seldom that Vic is taken by surprise in this imaginary world we’ve created. So often I find myself cheering for this anti-hero, Vic Mackey, and rooting against anyone who gets in his way. Well, this time it’s different. Vic was taken by surprise, taken by surprise by a worthy opponent. Shane.
That was my favorite part of this episode, the look on Vic Mackey’s face (so brilliantly given by Michael). I wonder how you feel?
Thank you all for supporting our efforts.
