I give this one an F. No, two Fs. FF for f*cking Fantastic!! It's feeling a lot more like Season One and this was my favorite ep so far! Of course, we can never re-live the shock and intrigue we felt as newly popped Shield virgins 4 seasons ago, but this is a lot like hooking up with your favorite lover after a while apart!
Lots of really great head shots of Vic and the boys throughout, with Vic looking like the sexy-hot prized bull again instead of a burned out crooked cop, and the closing scene...wooo!! The chick playing Emolia was no doubt totally intimidated by MC's intensity--can you imagine being in the same room with that let alone the target of it?? Everyone paired with him in such scenes talks about it like a brush with death. The craft at its very best!
But poor Ronnie...of all the indignities!! I can hear Peach (his biggest fan) now... Scott Rosenbaum, pulling crap duty for cover is NOT what Peach meant when she told you and Snell that his fans want a more important role for Ronnie in S05!!

I was waiting for someone in the barn to see Ronnie on his way to the can and ask him a question, which would have alerted IAD that the ST knows about the tap

My fiance's reaction to Ronnie's "dump duty" was, "I wonder what in the hell he's doing in there!" ;D

I really dug the episode. Especially the Vic/Emolia/Kavanaugh confrontation at the end. I also liked how Kavanaugh is finally starting to drop the 'sloppy gum-guy' ruse. Vic is starting to get under his skin. The way he played him with Aceveda was priceless. Cant wait for next week.
A couple of thoughts about Shane: Sure, I hated the way he asked Lem about his loyalty, especially considering what Lem and Vic have done to save his ass in seasons 3 and 4. However, when considering his behavior from a systemic viewpoint (I'm a psychologist) I feel that Shane is merely the voice in the group expressing the doubts and concerns that everyone has. Will Lem stay true? Can they pull it off? If not, what will happen? These questions must be on all their minds, Shane is just the one who takes on the burden of expressing them.
About Corrine: Jesus, what was she thinking??? I mean c'mon, if she wanted legal advice then why not go to a lawyer? Why go ask a guy about possible ramifications of an investigation into your husband when he thinks your husband is an a**hole??
Great season so far, so much suspense from the get-go!!
Cheers!

Favorite line of the night was when ST was on scene with body face down on sidewalk with hairpiece falling off: Shane: "Nice piece" Vic: "Let this be a cautionary tale" The look Shane gave to that was hilarious! Hey bigcat : :--find your own avatar, I have had this one for over 200 posts. Jeez - is that better - didn't know people were so possessive of these things....

I was more bothered by Corrine going to Kavanaugh & letting him know that she knew he was a cop. Even though that takes some weight off the suspicion of Lem telling Vic, it still screwed things up! She should have either helped Vic by playing along or just made up something to avoid Kavanaugh and stayed out of it. She really annoyed me in this episode!

Hey bigcat : :--find your own avatar, I have had this one for over 200 posts. Jeez - is that better - didn't know people were so possessive of these things.... It's just establishing an recognizable identity and feeling connected to the screen name, the avatar, maybe even the font color. I can understand where Badcop is coming from--even though we don't have enough avatars among our selections to go around. A lot of members have designed their own or had someone else design one for them. Member Wendig0 is doing some nice work on banners and can probably design some avatars, too. In any case, try to be understanding on this. And FYI, I really like your new avatar better! Back to the topic: While Corrine has opened a whole new can of worms for Vic & the Team, I am not surprised she would go to Dutch. She doesn't know he'd love to bust Vic, afterall. Plus, if she wants a straight and knowledgable answer, he's the one she'd go to. I think she's just so panicky that she had to ask someone, anyone, for advice. An attny would have been better, of course, but she trusts Dutch as a "member of the police family." And what he told her was dead on true. Now she's got to think about the money she accepted from Vic and what that means for her and her kids legally. Time to lawyer-up for real!

i gave this episode an A
i thought the confrontation with emolia was very good and i really liked that Kavanaugh caught vic in the act of interogatting her, and that vic thought of a good plausible excuse. i thought it was odd that corrine would go running back to dutch considering how she got rid of him last season. then again, i think she respects him more than her x husband, that is why she asked him and not vic, about kavanaugh's threats. i think kavanaugh recognizes that corrine is weak and that he can exploit it, at vics cost.

First, let me say that I don't think Tina is IA any longer. While maybe a seasoned detective unused to the practices of the Barn might run in the cage with a gun, I don't think any self-respecting cop would have run away like she did, or said what she did to Danny. She's a whiny little bitch. So, I take it back, I was wrong, and let us never speak of this again. AHEM. Overall, I liked the episode. I can see how there's some mixed reactions. I respect deeply the opinions of dissenters like eddiekaay and jwc (*smooch!*) and can see how the ep dragged a bit. Yes, I think the whole Ronnie in the bathroom thing was a little silly. Aceveda's parts seem forced - like he has a minimum amount he contractually needs to be on the show and the writers are coming up with BS to put him in front of the camera. And fanatic1950 mentioned the clubhouse not being bugged, which if it's not being done (while maybe it is and the writers just haven't told us yet) then that's about stupid. Corrine going to Dutch is perfect. As a cop's girlfriend, I totally believed that. Not that I would do it, because IA is nothing to mess with, but I can understand the feelings that might push her to do so. Shane and Lem - I think that if Lem could find a way to bury Shane without any effect on himself or Vic or Ronnie, I bet he would. Shane is always going to look out for himself first, and I don't believe it's going to take much pressure on Mara to get her to push on Shane. Kav shoulda gone after her instead of Corrine. Vic and Emolia - god, I wanted him to kill her so badly! Lying little rat-faced beeeeeotch! It's so obvious that Vic is trying to unfuck his own life and his problems with his own children by helping her and her son, and he so desperately wants to have something good in his world. I can't wait to see what happens with them next - their dynamic is completely changed. Kav and Vic - yes, it was an ep where the last 5 minutes were the best, but damn, weren't they the best, though?! Forest Whitaker is so flipping amazing. His astonishment at finding Vic there was perfect, and his proprietary touching of Emolia when all three were standing in the kitchen was priceless. Like he was making sure his most precious piece of evidence was OK. So yes, I think the ep had draggy points, and then at the same I think there were points that moved us along nicely. I was watching at work and trying to suck in a co-worker into The Shield. It was a good ep for that, in my opinion, especially since we had the little side story of the baby and the CSU person was fairly intelligent sounding.

Was there any reference to Dutch's dinner with the Parole Officer? It got past me if there was.
I think the ep. dragged a bit, too - but I have to confess to having looked at the spoiler threads a lot and I'm going to avoid that this week to see if it changes my perception of the next ep.

I forgot to make a comment about the dead baby/crushed chest thing. When the girl admitted her bf tried to give the baby CPR and the bones crunched, I thought it was powerful to see Danny's reaction. But it also reminded me of an event in my past. I worked as a police dispatcher when I was in high school. Now that was fun! Every now and then I'd get to spend time doing a ride along with the officers, which was even more fun.
One time an officer and I were the first to arrive at a medical crisis call--an elderly woman had collapsed. Audie, the officer, was still pretty young and new to police work...always a little too eager, you know? (He once ticketed a train for speeding through town!!) Anyway, he attempted to give her CPR...and guess what? Yep, crrrrrunnnch! His hands actually went into her chest. Poor Audie lost every drop of color and nearly fainted. He just sat up and looked shell-shocked. (Later he admitted to me that he went outside and vomited) Meantime, I'm standing there totally fascinated by that sound and the gruesome reaction of her old bones to his youthful attempt to revive her. Needless to say, she was a gonner.
My intrigue knows no bounds.

I got in this discussion too late. I'm going to wait and come back to this episode either next week or soon thereafter. Very tight episode. I have a few thoughts on Kavanaugh, from my prior posts, but I'll sit on those for a bit.
Grade: A Season 5 thus far: B+

On anote note, I don't see many references to "Tapa Boca"? I don't read the spoilers section for fear of seeing something I don't want to yet, but first, what does Tapa Boca mean? Second, once I know that, what are our impressions of what it means for this episode?? Anyone jump in here?

Interestingly, while doing a google search on "Tapa Boca", other than coming across TV sites with the The Shield, I found a site with a bunch of mexican spiritual soaps, that are supposed to help you, in certain areas of your life, if you use them. www.neworleansmistic.com/soaps/mexicansoap.htmIf you scroll down a bit, there is a soap called "shut up", or "JABON TAPA BOCA". The description is as follows, "Stop gossip and rumors. Take your name out of another's mouth." Emolia, definitely. ~Diz

The definition I found for Tapa Boca was "It Covers Mouth." So, maybe as a noun it could mean 'muzzle' or 'gag?' What do you guys think?
I made reference to Emolia keeping her mouth shut (covered) about IAD in my first reply here..... I'm glad she's finally come down on Vic's side!
Tapa Boca: I had to cover my own mouth during Vic and Emolia's scene! Vic put a muzzle on Emolia, as far as her talking with Kavanaugh....
edit: DL - I found that stuff too! What the heck is Tapa Boca Oil??!
