First post?! I'm greatly disappointed, where was everyone in the chat room tonight?! Initial thoughts: --Didn't really like lawyer Doyle...I don't really remember her previously, someone want to remind me if she was in a past episode? Not real sure if I liked that part of the storyline. Sure, she is bitter from Vic in a prior case, but that just seems like re-hashing old thoughts: Vic twists cases to his benefit and conviction ratings. --Enjoyed the Lem-Strike Team-no-one-can-talk scenes. Kinda of nice to actually see the team run the straight and narrow for a change. Thoroughly enjoyed Shane throwing in a cheap shot on that guy - real Strike Team like - even if they are trying to play it safe, not always true, eh? --Was really hoping NOT to see Mara ever again. Looks like that is the angle Kavanaugh is going to take now that Corrine caught onto him. Mara just seems like a bitch that is too controlling, protective, and insecure with herself to the degree she has to have Shane soley to himself (enforced in prior seasons). Great sex and bed scene however. --Not to slob my own knob, well actually, I am really subscribing to my own theory that I posted in the last episode of Kavanaugh being a real slobby nerd, disorganized, chaotic, and drive to the point of tunnel vision. He made his first real screw up tonight, talking to Corrine about "Andy's" teacher. Even though I haven't enjoyed prior scenes with Corrine and Kavanaugh, I really liked tonight's. Much more realistic and true. A very "tight" scene, I thought. --Everyone BUT Dutch had to know of Dutch's new boytoy that he was gay from the getgo...seriously...Still, just a great moment in Dutch's failed relationships. Favorite part of the night? EASY!! When Dutch and (name?) bumped into each other (accident, I'm sure...). I almost spit out my beer laughing so hard. Oh, Dutch. --Aceveda!! Phenomenal!! How great was it to see him actually, once again, DRAWN into how much his hate and deep his anger stems for Vic. I can see that some TSR members and fans might seem like it's a broken record, but I really enjoy that struggle between these two. --I'm really dying to find out how this Dutch/Claudette revealing her medical problem is going to shape up. Dutch could really be a great father/brother/husband role in Claudette's life if necessary. --Best line? Danny: "Your heiness Billings wants to see you, Vic." Classic. JAILBAIT: --Mexican teenagers --Tina looking like a Mexican teenager, DAMNED HOT --Corrine could help Lem be jailbait --Seeing Mara (yuck!) again means Kavanaugh could use her to make Lem JAILBAIT --Gay sex is probably banned in California (not sure?!) - Dutch and his boytoy = JAILBAIT --Obviously Lem as JAILBAIT for Vic --The teens backing up Mario making that other boy JAILBAIT *************************** --Last thought and most important...I know many on TSR aren't too high up on Kavanaugh and Whitaker's take on him. HOWEVER, Kavanaugh is REALLY SETTING HIMSELF UP TO WORK THE SYSTEM. In less than three episodes, Kavanaugh has Aceveda wrapped around his little finger, I'm sure Billings would do WHATEVER he is pushed to do, and Corrine could still be a a factor. Just wait till he finds out about Mara, then the shit's really gonna hit the fan. *************************** Overall, greatly enjoyed this episode. Last episode I gave a C. This one's a A. --Dan **Edited cuz I'm bored and NO ONE'S IN THE DAMNED CHAT ROOM

Voted A. Alot of tendrils being brought together in this episode. I love seeing an episode where alot of things happen at once. Didn't like how Vic treated Corrine and i think t may cost him a bit later but the rest of the story was great. Tina took pretty good care of herself as a decoy but i was surprized the new jerkoff acting captain cold get away with calling her sweety. Was that intentional and maybe a tip-off to something between them or did she just ignore it? Hmmmm...I wonder. Also, did everybosy notice Vics face when Danni said "He keeps kicking"? Maybe the babies daddy is a little conflicted. Hmmmm...I wonder. One thing i KNOW i didn't need to see was Shane's ass. WHYYYYYY? At least warn somebody. They suck because they got me looking to see if i'd see some boobies (preferably Tina's) and then i get Shanes butt. Jackasses. Anyway, great episode.

Pretty good episode. Although I'm beginning to fear that this Becca lawyer character is going to get on my nerves for her character's entire run. Laura Harring is really quite the lousy actress when she doesn't have a mouthful of Naomi Watts.

A. Easy A.
-Shane's "Chi-Chi" joke. I heard and told that joke years ago, before I went to high school. "Chi-Chi" was "bunda" back then though.
-The whole dynamic of the Strike Team having to work around Lem having a wire. It was good this episode, but I hope it doesn't get drawn out quick. I loved the cheapshot Shane took at the "hare." I also loved that the grandmother was obviously caught from the beginning of the chase. When there's four guys on a team, and it only takes one of them to get you, that's a sign you shouldn't run.
-Shane's speech to Mara. The tagline of the season makes me feel the foreshadowing in it.
-I know it was supposed to be bad, but that fat bastard that died on that girl got a chuckle out of me. "Rodrigo's going to be hitting the snooze button in hell from now on."
-And to nitpick, Danny's line had "her majesty."

Yeah, it looks like they're definitely setting Shane up to roll on Vic. It's most likely a waze down the line though.

axeman and brokin, that Shane/Mara conversation really bothered me. After all we went through with Shane last season, he doesn't seem like the place to go for tension.
Great episode, shitty cable service.
(It was "Her majesty.")

Nice episode. Scott Rosenbaum & Glen Mazarra, writers. Overall a more mature tone than the more ruthless Kurt Sutter.
Reminds me of the "Safe-breaking" episode, with the ST scrambling to do damage control. GREAT performance by Walton Goggins doing the joke.
Anyone else see that lingering look between Vic and Danny? Red herring?
The Tina/van scene -- internet porn reference -- a cross between the Bang Bus and C** Fiesta.
Ha - ha -- just got the "right up your alley" joke when Danny introduces Dutch to the gay detective.
And for all you Shane Ass fans out there.... ! ;D ;D ;D
However, sloppy excuse to have the face-to-face scene-- Kavanaugh has been accomplishing a lot behind the scenes, to expose himself up front to Vic this early wasn't for strong enough a reason.
And the hotel-room dialogue with Aceveda....um.... Days of Our Lives, anyone? Capital "X "for Exposition.
Glad to see Mara back in the mix, she's nothing but bad news.

I agree with you on Kavanaugh. But you can't really blame him. He didn't expose himself. Vic knew a shitload on him before the meeting, and Kavanaugh doesn't know. In his mind, Vic has no clue of IAD's investigation. We know better.

I HATE MARA!!!!!!!! She is Oko ONO!!! She will be the down fall of the ST. Shane tells here too much. Why would she need to know about the whole antwon thing? Kavanaugh will corner him and WIll put that bitch and Jackson before the team, even though the ST kept his ass out of jail last season. HUuuggghhhh! I hate mara.

I liked the way that Shane and Mara are settled into married life. The writers have done a very realistic job of moving from the newlywed power struggle when Mara first came along ("You have to give up your old friends if you really love me") to a scene showing how she can read Shane but doesn't push too far - "That was great...but you were somewhere else."
Yeah, everybody hates Mara, but that scene really impressed me. The writers realistically evolved the relationship even though we haven't had substantial scenes of it for a long time. Big thumbs up.

Quick thought - I loved that closing scene of season 4, speaking of Shane's son's name... Shane: His name's Jackson Vic: As in Michael? Shane: As in Stonewall.

This is heartless, but I really wish the Armenian mob or Antwon had gotten to Mara. God, I hate her. She is a conniving evil woman!
As for the episode, I loved it. Good drama, tense scenes.
I actually like that lawyer. She was manipulative of Vic, but I think she'll end up helping the Strike Team somehow.
A few days ago, I talked about how I did not like Tina, but she impressed me this week. She did a better job of holding her own. However, I can't imagine that's really going to last. It's hard to believe the actress who plays her is nearly 32.
I loved the scenes with the Strike Team as Shane was telling the joke and the rest of the guys were basically chatting with each other. Classic. And it was even better that Kavanaugh like the joke. He's totally falling for their routine. I wonder what his story is. He intrigues me. He's a bit of a longer cop with a quirky personality. He's playing Aceveda like a fiddle, but Vic has the upper hand FOR NOW in their cat-and-mouse game.
I felt like the interrogation scenes with Claudette and the shooting suspect were a little off. Some scenes were missing. Maybe they'll show up on the DVD.
Overall, a great episode. Maybe the best so far this season.
All of the Jailbait references were mentioned above. I don't think the gay guy though qualifies as Jailbait. Mara, on the other hand, totally does. I hate her.

I had never seen Laura Harring before so I didn't have any preconceived ideas about how she'd be in the role. I thought she did just fine. Women lawyers are often like that, esp around cops. Guarded, a little defensive, stilted. Did anyone else get a creepy feeling that she might be sleeping with Everyday? She seemed too interested in rescuing him, like it was something personal. Didn't she say something about calling him often? I had visions of some of the teacher/student relationships we've seen in the media lately. Why a grown successful woman would go for a punk... who knows. But it's always possible!
I don't think for a minute that Vic has the upper hand with Kavanaugh. Who can really tell what the latter is thinking? I believe the hyper enthusiasm, slightly naive routine is just that... a routine...to disarm the people around him, even Acevada. He's a master preditor, if you ask me, and we are going to see something dark and nasty out of him yet. Those nutty grins and expressions he makes--I think he could very well be mentally ill. Vic is just the guy to take him over the edge!

One of the pivotal scenes to this episode's main storyline was eerily reminiscent of Season 2, Episode 1 of The Wire. Sadly, that takes away from my overall impression of the episode. Shame, because it was a really good one.

Vic is just the guy to take him over the edge! Excellent point! And, Forest Whitaker is just the kind of actor that can pull it off. Kavanaugh may be mentally ill, but I think it's more like "crazy like a fox". However, it looks as if he screwed up and blew his cover with Corinne. Was it intentional? It was cool that Corinne immediately went to Vic and mentioned the incident. I agree with other posters here about Mara. Can't stand her character ... Don't trust her, either... And, I see Shane as a possible weak link in the Strike Team. In my opinion, he is talking way too much about their police business with Mara. And, so far, I'm not feelin' the Lawyer Lady, either. I see that Tina did a great job, undercover. But, after the bust, the look on her face as she was leaving that house was not one of a happy camper. Mmm...? One funny moment was when Claudette told Dutch about the guy being gay #roflao# . The (mischievous) look on her face, as well as his own expression, was priceless. I was also amused at the scene where the grandmother is interrogated, and she proceeds to (practically) curse out the police in Spanish, while Tina translates. Overall, I give this ep a B+. I thought that it was good, with content providing "building blocks" for major storylines this season. Cat

OK, anyone out there think they are hot in trivia? Well, I have a super hard trivia Q for you: there was a line in "Jailbait" that links Michael Chiklis to an episode of Law and Order. First thing to figure out is what line I'm talking about. And finding the link between MC and the L&O ep is even tougher. Let me know if (more like 'when', heh) you want hints. #surrender# Whoever gets the answer with the fewest number of hints is king or queen of trivia. It helps if you are a huge fan of L&O, of course.

I felt that the focus of the episode was:
(a) To reaffirm Lem's ties to the ST. It appears that Lem wont rat Vic out and that the ST will help him get out of his mess somehow.
(b) To set up the notion of Mara doing serious damage. The fact that Vic and Lem saved her scrawny ass in season 3 is, of course, irrelevant to her.
Random thoughts:
- I'm not sure I like that fact that Dutch and Claudette are being treated as filler. Their storylines are lame thus far.
- So far, there's no reason for Kavanaugh to go after Shane becuase there's nothing to hold over him. I wonder if/how that's going to change. In other words, how is Shane going to f*ck up this time?
- I hope Mara gets run over by a bus.

I don't remember which commentary or who said it (possibly Shawn) but Mara is the universally most-hated regular ever in the series. He said he felt bad about it because the actress is such a nice person--but when he asked her about it, she said she didn't mind!
What do you suppose it is that we hate? I disliked her from day one. She has a whiny, weasely look--which is exactly how she turned out to be. She's really no better than some of the skanky street snitches.
