You guys are killing me. Due to a SNAFU that is the COMPANY'S FAULT I dont' get paid until the 14th, but I get two paychecks that day. I have to wait until THEN to get the DVDs. My CCs are both maxed out and I have about $30 in the bank to last me until then. Looks like Ramen noodles it is. But do enjoy everyone. I'll enjoy them eventually.

I 100% agree with Bailey, killing Lem off was the dumbest thing they could have done, I understand it was for shock value but damn it!!

Shock... value? Lem didn't have to die, but his death was no shock value act. It fell in sync with the characters and had parallels to Terry. The ironic thing is that Terry's death WAS for shock value.

I really don't understand why people call Lem's death "dumb." The entire season, hell, practically the entire show, has been leading up to something like that. I mean, if you can't be rational about it because you simply like Lem so much, that's fine. But don't disrespect the work of everyone involved in The Shield by calling it dumb.

Lem dying was NOT FOR SHOCK VALUE and was the most brilliant move they could have made. The Shield is going to go down in history as the greatest story ever told via serial television.

I didn't like it at first. Actually the part I didn't like was that they used a grenade, but I got over that quick.
I think S5 has tied S2 for the best season.

^ While I hated that Lem died, I do agree it added something to the final season and a half or two seasons or whatever is left. It just wouldn't have been the same if Ronnie or Shane bought a farm.

Lem's death essentially cemented this series as the epic classic Greek tragedy it has been since the beginning. I haven't said this outright, but, honestly, if Lem *hadn't* died, I'd be willing to say the series was beginning to seriously spin its wheels and run out of gas creatively, and suffering from a cop-out syndrome. Shawn Ryan put it well: the writers had to grapple with there being a traumatic consequence to everything that had been weaved into The Shield's tapestry for so long. Lem's death sends this series hurtling towards its final, darkest act, and was definitely the right way to go.

Don't get me wrong... When that grenade went off, I was shocked. Heartbroken! I believed Lem would go to Mexico - I wanted him to go so strongly that I refused to understand what Shane did.... WTF? No way did Shane just blow up Lem. No way! My moaning about it lasted a long freaking time too. While part of me knew immediately that Lem's murder was artistically brilliant, I usually shut that bitch up with a carton of double chocolate chunk fudge ripple ice cream! heh.
The extra long hiatus gave me time to grieve (yes, I'm a sick Shield fan who actually LOVED a make-believe character named Lem) and to adjust to him being dead. I also came to fully embrace the brilliance of what happened to him in the larger scheme of things. Hmmm.. as much as I bitch about how long we've waited for these episodes to air - as painful as that was - maybe it was necessary. ??

From the very last few minutes in the Pilot all the way to the last few minutes of Postpartum, the writers haven't sugar coated anything. It's been one shock after another from Terry to Connie then on to Lem. I can only imagine what's next.

Can you believe it? Almost a year later and people still get their panties in a knot over Lem's death! We are a devoted bunch, that's for sure. That's just too damn funny. The more my daughter Jennifer (Dutchgirl) watches the previous five seasons she says she can see how we get so "into" this particular show. She'll start watching a season and doesn't want to turn it off until she's watched all the shows WITH the bonus features. Geeeeez. Talk about obsessive. Glad we're not like that, huh?
