Do you think Kavanaugh took a different route of investigating the ST after offering Aceveda the gum and he "didn't bite" because after that, Kavanaugh never did much interrogating on Aceveda. kinda like Kavanaugh giving Lem the fishing flies as a birthday gift and Lem accepting them. Why would Kavanaugh give Lem the flies if he knew he was going to prison?

I don't know why he didn't go after Aceveda with more gusto.... maybe he thought he needed him to help get info on the Strike Team? I dunno.
I honestly think Kav expected Lem to flip on the guys, so he wouldn't be going to jail. I also think he genuinely liked Lem, but also wanted to make sure Lem knew that he remembered his birthday when the others hadn't. A tactic to make Lem feel like Kav cared about him, but the guys didn't. Also, the flies were to remind Lem what he'd be missing (fishing) if he DIDN'T flip on the team....

Nice work.
I think ultimately that Kav didn't have enough dirt on Aceveda. There's plenty of it to be had, but other than holding Vic and the ST's actions over his head, he really didn't seem to have much on him.
Things he could've used: 1) Aceveda's Pole-Smoking Abilities 2) Aceveda's Stalking of Juan (and maybe raping/abusing his g/f) 3) Aceveda's Deals with Vic 4) Aceveda and the Whore 5) Aceveda attacking that witness (can't remember off the top of my head - Vic gave him the tape). 6) Aceveda and Claudette's ongoing fueds.
Has anyone ever wondered why Kav didn't try to work Claudette? I'm gonna' post this as it's own thread...it's been bugging me.

Nice work. 5) Aceveda attacking that witness (can't remember off the top of my head - Vic gave him the tape). . I think it was in S3 and the episode "Safe" with the song that led them to all the bodies. Im pretty sure it was this episode. I know for sure it was S3 and the person he beat was a hispanic.

I think that Kavanaugh was really impressed and sad about lem all at the same time. Kavanaugh though for sure that lem would turn on his guys if it meant that he was going to prison, but when lem stood his ground kavanaugh was impressed i think that kavanaugh gave lem the fishing flies to make lem think that kav was his only true friend because of the comment he made by saying that i cant believe your friends wouldnt even wish you happy birthday did they forget? and maybe that would change lem's mind. but guess what? it didn't!

The thing of it is, Kavanaugh never felt the need to directly confront Aceveda in plain old "I'm going to interrogate your ass" terms the way he did with the Strike Team members and Vic's wife, Corrine.
His trust in Aceveda began to wane when Vic played both of them like bass guitars in 5x04 Tapa Boca. He planted seeds of doubt in Kavanaugh about Aceveda; the very next episode, 5x05 Trophy, ironically Aceveda is kind of trying to find an ally in Vic to cover up the medical situation in Farmington (very realistic, by the way). But Aceveda is certainly not involved in Vic getting the upper hand on Kavanaugh in that episode--culminating in Vic acknowledging Aceveda by saying, "Councilman," at the scene of the "bust" of Russian mobsters. Kavanaugh immediately "figured it out"--"it" being what Vic wanted him to think--and Aceveda's look was priceless because it essentially said, "Damn, now Kavanaugh is sure I'm in bed with Vic!"
After that, Kavanaugh eases off the gas with Aceveda until he starts to piece together the Juan connection. Which sends Aceveda over to Lem, trying to twist his arm to rat out the other guys--and then Aceveda more or less plays along with both Vic and Kavanaugh in their ongoing war like the politician he is, taking every angle he can. Vic thinks he's on his side at the end of 5x09 Smoked, and then through the latter two episodes of Season 5. But he's really "Kavanaugh's wetback bitch," as Vic calls him in 6x01 On the Jones after finding out Aceveda flatly lied about Lem being ready to cave in and give up, serving up the other guys with the Money Train heist (which beautifully tied in with Lem actually telling Becca about it on his own--the two sources of information for Vic and Shane were too much to tolerate).
Um... Anyway, it does make you think, though, that Vic should NEVER trust Aceveda ever again. Somehow I think the writers will keep this in mind in Season 7, even though they are, for the moment, mutual allies in the overall sting of busting a big portion of the Mexican Mafia in Farmington.

Oh yeah, the juicy fruit gum thing was directly lifted off by Kurt Sutter from the great classic film The Third Man, as he says in the episode 5x01 Extraction commentary. Hey, if you're going to take something from another film, might as well borrow from one of the best films ever made.

i agree that he gave lem the present more because he wanted lem to have doubts about the other guys,
he might like lem, but he cared more about the job and that meant gettin vic, if he liked lem that much he wouldnt have arrested him out of anger in KAVANAUGH he wouldnt continually threaten him, and be as condescendin as he is with most people
