1. How did you find out about "The Shield?" Umm...I was watching Married with Children when the promos came up...
2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? I watch it because cop dramas are cool. The part of the show that draws me is the scenes that are dark...Ooohh...
3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join? I'm a member of IMDB and found the link there.
4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? As far as it can go. Nothing but the truth.
5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? I don't mind it as long as it's to a certain extent. 6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? Law and Order SVU and Hunter 7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? Nope. 8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? He is actually quite good.
9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? I'm sure it could survive, depends on the actors. I would want Katey Sagal on the show, because she is a good actress. She could keep the show going.
10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? All of them I think.
11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? It's corrupted.
12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name Well my screen name is from Katey Sagal's character on the episode "Grave". I am like a big FAN so I thought of that name instantly.

1. I caught the first few episodes when I was living in London. It's not something I normally would have watched, but I was desperate for some American tv. 2. The writing is phenomenal, and I love watching the relationships between the characters unfold. 3. I lurk on one of the other boards. This one seemed friendlier. 4. There's a question! I discuss that with other fans after nearly every episode, and we still don't have an answer. 5. I'd be curious to see what would happen if network were able to push the boundaries the way cable has. If you don't like it or you don't want your kids watching it, turn it off. Of course, I don't have kids yet, so who I am to talk... 6. I enjoyed the early years of Law & Order, circa Chris Noth and Michael Moriarty. 7. I briefly worked as a police reporter when I was on my college newspaper one summer but never covered anything beyond a car crash. I got out of a lot of speeding tickets, though. 8. I never saw "The Commish" or "Daddio." Michael Chiklis will always be Vic Mackey to me. I can't imagine anyone else playing the role. 9. Hmmm, that's a tough one. I don't think the show would be what it is without the ensemble cast, but Chiklis is definitely the center of the show. I'd watch a spin-off starring Kenneth Johnson. Something where he spends a lot of time on that Harley, preferably in cowboy jeans. 10. Another tough one. I wouldn't even try to guess. It's just not part of the world I inhabit. 11. Unwieldy--but for the most part, I believe in the good intentions of the people who work in it. 12. I lived in London for a little while with my husband. It was one of the happiest times in my life and I was feeling really nostalgic the other night for some reason.

12. I lived in London for a little while with my husband. It was one of the happiest times in my life and I was feeling really nostalgic the other night for some reason. I have always wanted to see London! I have a strange affinity for all things British; encompassing humor, music, film, history, religion, and my own personal genealogy. Living there, if only for a while, would really be a dream come true.
Welcome to the Rap!

I also want to welcome you, londongrl. I'm glad you found some of our icebreaker Qs thought-provoking. Incidentally, my late aunt lived in London and I have two first cousins who have lived there all their lives. Like E, I am an Anglophile. I have a funny story about a time I had to find my way by rental car from Gatwick airport to central London. One of those things that wasn't particularly funny at the time, heh--in fact, it was maddening.

Jeeeeeeeeeez -- I can't answer all those.
I've been watching the Shield ever since my brother loaned me S1 on DVD -- hooked ever since.
My fav seasons are 1 & 2 -- worst so far is 4, no doubt. Talk about stringing us along!
I'm looking forward to more of the old style, where the writers weren't afraid to let the shit hit the fan. If I get another 10-min "Respect!" scene, God help me.
Fav episodes -- Dragonchasers (S1), Homewrecker (S2).
Characters who don't get enough respect -- Danny & Julien -- amen!

1. How did you find out about "The Shield?" I found out about The Shield by watching the promos on Fx. 2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? There are so many people that I know within Law Enforcement that are like some of the characters on the show. 3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join? I saw the thread on the fxnetwork board and decided to check it out. Looks like a great place to chat about one of my favorite shows.
4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? Any means necessary.
5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? I don't think that alot of it is needed. Although I think that it is funny that since they get to use the word a**hole that they use it as much as possible. 6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? Law and Order SVU is my favorite show. Not to many others around anymore.
7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? I have had some classes for Law Enforcement and I worked for an Armed Security Company for about 5 years. 8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? I like his character. He is showing what some cops do to get what they want.
9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? I don't think that it would last long if he were to leave the show. There is nobody else that could replace him.
10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? I think that there is a very small percent that are "above the law." The media showcases the brutality and rarely shows all of the good within the Police Dept.
11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? I have faith in our American Criminal Justice System. 12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? )

1. How did you find out about "The Shield?" A. I love NYPD Blue and saw the Shield onFX in the UK and thought it looked OK. So I rented season 1 on DVD and after the pilot and Bawitdaba and all that I was hooked.
2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? A. Vic Mackey! He is the strongest character I have seen on TV since Andy Sipowicz (NYPD Blue). Ijust need to know what happens to him and his family and his team.
3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join? A. Saw a link on the FX message board and love the look of Theshield rap so I joined!
4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? A. As far as they need to. Too many criminals get away with it cos the cops have their hands tied by politics.
5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable?
A. As far as they want to. If the program is on late at night and the DVD's are rated 18 then why shouldn't they show what they want?
6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? a. NYPD Blue. Loved Murder One (first season). Wire in the blood(UK Program)
7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? A. No
8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? A. Brilliant. Needs no more words!
9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? A. I doubt it although there is an actor in England called Ross Kemp who could fill his shoes.

I immediately wanted to see it again and was wholly pissed off that I had to wait nearly a year for the DVDs..... Thanks for the warm welcome, I was originally from the People's Republic of San Francisco Bay Area, moved to Taiwan since 2003 for work, with it missed tons of kick butt TV shows... The local network has just began playing Season 4, but due to their habit of editing it to pieces, I will wait for the DVD release next month. Here they called it "The Bald Detective" (don't ask), with quite a fan base among the ex-US residents like myself...

I started watching The Shield because my DAD recommended I check out "This cool new cop show." I receive the most satisfaction from the show when I can truly FEEL the emotion from the characters...for instance, watching Dutch squeeze the life out of a cat to try to understand a killer, almost crying after the Shane/Tevon fight, or feeling like giving up like Vic in the finale of Season 1. These scenes keep me coming back.
My favorite cop show used to be Homicide: Life on the Street. Superior acting, storyline, everything. I don't think the show can survive without Vic, nor do I think it should. The show goes out with a bang with Vic going down with the ship, I feel.
And I found out about this website from IMDB boards. Thanks for all the admin's hard work, I appreciate it.
***** Edited for grammar.

1. I found out about The Shield by seeing the promos for the pilot on TV. I thought it looked cool but I never got around to watching season 1 on TV. One day I bought the season 1 DVDs because it was on sale for like $20, and I watched the whole set in two days.
2. I watch The Shield because it's intense. I always can't wait for the next episode to see how things will play out.
3. I found theshieldrap on google and I joined because of the inside info and cool people here.
4. How far the ends justify the means is tricky. I think cops have to be careful because of the possibility of harrassing the wrong people to get the truth. In the end, I think if they end up saving lives, the ends justify the means.
5. Broadcast TV has different standard because, technically, it's free. I think they should push the envelope as far as they can.
6. Other cop shows: All Law & Order, SVU, CI.
7. I have no experience in the criminal justice system (unless you count going to jail in TJ once for a night...)
8. Michael Chiklis is bad-ass as Vic Mackey. Chiklis really pulled it together to make this character work.
9. The Shield could not survive if Chiklis left the show. All the actors are great, but the show depends and functions on the audience being invested in the Vic Mackey character.
10. I think most cops think they're above the law in some way, but I don't think they all cross the line. It's all a touchy subject, but I tend to give cops they benefit of the doubt, if possible, since they're out there risking their lives to protect us.
11. The American justice system, like any system, is prone to corruption. In theory, it's a system that tries to find the fairest way to achieve justice. It's not perfect and it never will be.
12. janthman is Jan the Man (me). I wanted to be jantheman but I wasn't allowed to because that has an 'e' in it. What kind of horseshit is that?!

Hey there, J-man! You have some really good answers there, esp the one about Googling us and finding cool people here! I agree! I love this group of Shield fans... they aren't about out-performing one another. It's all about the series (and our pets, heh heh)
I did the same. Caught Season 2 premiere and FLIPPED OUT. I was truly, madly, deeply in love with this show and ran to our 24 hour Walmart to get the Season 1 dvd! I think I called in sick the next day just to watch them... oh, bad bad me! (but good good series!)
It radically changed my life, believe it or not. I met the most interesting people on some Shield sites (two have since imploded due to bad administration) and then hooked back up with them here. I even met my best ever friends because of The Shield!
Guess that's why I am gonna have a broken badge tattooed on my ass. CC

1. How did you find out about "The Shield?" promos2. Why do you watch "The Shield"; ie, what part of the show draws you to it the most? ideal cast; superb writing; the reality of the dark side. prolly revealing too much here, but it's been my experience that life is full of twists & people quite often are not who & what you think they are3. How did you find out about "TheShieldRap" and what made you decide to join? from the FX site; wanted to meet the other inmates4. How far do you think cops should be able to go to get the truth? To what extent do the ends justify the means? depends on the situation; accomplishes little to be playing checkers when the real game is chess5. How far do you think cable TV should be able to go in terms of language, nudity, and/or sexual content? Should broadcast TV have different standards than cable? cable: push the envelope; broadcast: middle america6. What other cop or law-related shows do you like? CSI & Third Watch7. Do you have any experience with or in the criminal justice system? yepper8. Most of us know Michael Chiklis as "The Commish" and he was in the NBC comedy "Daddio". What do you think of Michael's portrayal of corrupt cop and tough guy, Vic Mackey? it's a portrayal? nah, he IS Vic Mackey9. Could "The Shield" survive if Michael Chiklis left the show? Which actor would have the best chance of saving the show if Chiklis left? barely, it would be a major loss; Shane 10. Reading and hearing about police brutality and police corruption, what do you think about law enforcement in real life? In your opinion, what percentage of real cops think they are above the law? I say let the reality determine the standard. I've been to "Farmington" many times, it's a scaaary place & they couldn't maintain the upper hand if they used the same standards as Pocatello, Idaho; I'll say a reasonable %11. What, in a nutshell, is your overall view of the American criminal justice system? too much emphasis on criminals' rights12. New question: How did you come up with your screen name (in cases where it's not obvious, right CHIKchick? ) my heritage is Finnish
thanks for the way cool site

for real? ok, well since it's late & no one's here ...
1969, SoCal, looking for a lost dog, residential neighborhood, friend is driving, I see the dog & manage an ear-splitting whistle even tho we're under the influence of barbituates.
guy heading toward us on a motorcycle hears the whistle, turns his head to figure out where it's coming from ... runs into the Mustang we're in. nosy neighbor calls The Heat, they show up, I sorta remember falling out of the car when they opened my door.
they thought I was gonna O.D. (even tho I kept telling 'em I was effing fine) so they took me to the hospital. gave me something to make me vomit, cuffed to a wheelchair in the hallway. the, ahem, evidence being collected in the bowl, looking & feeling my best, I was then booked for being under the influence of dangerous drugs.
woke up a few hours later, got my phone call, dialed an old boyfriend who had just gotten home from 'Nam the day before, he posted bail. never went to court, just laid low for awhile & eventually moved out of town. jeez, surely that warrant is expired?
there were a few close calls: failure to disperse at anti-war demonstration; viewed a line-up at LA County Jail re witnessing bank robbery getaway/got interviewed by the Feds while on LSD (how they didn't pick up on that I DO not know); dry-swallowed my fair share of doobies & flushed many a bag in the nick of time, made enough to pay the rent/financed everything else by dealing pot ... but hey it was the 60's/70's, I plead insanity & I'm all better now. never even had a traffic ticket.
I guess I'll add that I've known a wide variety of peeps over the years. let me say this about that: the parole system is a joke & most parole agents just go thru the motions. some are totally asking to be gamed, I'm like where do they train you people, Disneyland? there's a world of difference between peace officers & corrections officers, but hey, look at the clientele, that'll do it to ya.
my generation bears large responsibility for the mess we're in today: peace, love & Kumbaya has brought us full circle to damn tweekers everywhere you look. I may go OFF on the next one who asks me for spare change. but ya know, at the time we had no idea that hard drugs would become so available. we just had no idea. I would prefer a world where all drugs (including alcohol) are illegal ... except for cannabis/psychedelics. sounds hypocritcal, gotta admit that.
probably sounds pretty mixed up, some of this/that/the other. I been around the block a few times, yeah. but I've also held positions of authority/responsibility & remained true at my center. raised an outstanding citizen. would I want my daughter or grandchildren to go where I've been? HELL no. but it's been an interesting ride & I never hurt anyone except myself.
I get my vicarious thrills when Vic & the boys bend the rules. depending on where you live, seems like it's bend or get bent. like I said before, I've been to "Farmington" many times, visited &/or lightweight partied with friends/co-workers who live there. it's like another planet & the rules are different, gotta be.
ok, your turn

Holy crap, finngirl! I love you!! ;D I've also led a life of close calls - only 1 misdemeanor arrest on my record.... I was 19 and in the wrong place doing the wrong thing at the wrong time. Nothing as exciting as anti-war protesting, but it did involve a bit of weed. OK, a lot of weed. I think it's been long enough now that the charge is gone from my record; at least the one that pops up for the cops when I'm pulled over. Yeah, I'm pulled over for speeding a LOT, but I never get a ticket. Always a warning. I've been the Criminal; I've worked with Defense attorneys; I've also worked on the Prosecution side of things. I've dealt with City, County, State, and Federal governments; I much prefer the City or County level.... the Feds can kiss my lilly white ass. They've fucked up my life. Would, that I could tell you about that, but I've already said too much..... This post will self-destruct in 3.... 2.... 1....
